My travel stories

Since 2009 we spent our third week (after 2006 and 2007) in late October in Mallorca. We were always late October here in Porto Soller, a lovely, not too big harbor, as the tourist have been significantly lower.

Soller rather lies in the middle of the Tramuntana, beautifully surrounded by mountains with all the possibilities for sightseeing tours and excursions. Sometimes we tried to bus, taxi or rental car. But there are also plenty of walks directly from the site.

Wherever we are in Mallorca on this time, there isn't really time for swimming in the sea. However, we were in the sunny week 2009 in the sea for swimming. The large hotel villages in the southeast are far away also. The centers too, which offer with pubs and discos the party until the morning. This tourists stay rare in the mountains.

Hiking in the Serra de Tramuntana

Porto Soller

We always staid in Porto Soller and arrived early in the morning. So we went with the rickety tram to Soller. From there we walked in the afternoon past the sports ground, the street Cami de sa Fiduera along, crossed the road that leads to Pollenca and went up to Borrassa Coll. Shortly thereafter, a new way to turn off Pto. Soller on the left. However, we always go right through the gate here and after a while to the Finca C'an Alonso. There are also freshly squeezed orange juice and sandwiches with wine.

After Deija we go to Banyalbufar. Even before you enter the city is on top of the switchbacks a small parking lot. From there, a beautiful almost level path leads to Port d'es Canogne.

Again and again how great sea views! Especially on a hike of Pto. Soller up to the lighthouse, a little inland to the hut Muleta and down to the sea to the restaurant. Against this restaurant you will cross the dry creek bed and follow this road down to the sea. From then on, there are many signs and cairns in constant ebb and flow to the Cala de Deija. This is a day trip and you have to bring food and drinks.

The walk to Castell d'Alaro also leads us to an excellent, simple restaurant. Anyone who passes by has missed something. We drive over Bunyola to the village Orient, and close behind at km 11,8 of the trail starts up immediately by an iron gate to the left, slightly uphill at first, then quite steeply through the woods to a parking lot and a half hour to the castle. From there you can already see below the restaurant es Verger. That's where we want. First the path leads the direction to Alaro. Then you reach the small road. And right up to Verger. There are shoulder of lamb and red wine in a bottle without a label, all quite unique.

With the taxi, we travel up to the Cuber Reservoir. From there, you look to the already not so high Col de L'Ofre, 904 m high. From there we will descend through the Barranc De Biniaraix about 800 meters. First, it is comfortably down to L'Alp Ofre and now a sometimes narrow, sometimes cobbled, more adventurous way down into the valley of Soller.

From Cala Tuent leads this coastal strip along a promising path up to the Coll de Melis. We have gone back to Tuent. You can also go to Soller, then this is a tour for a day.

On other days we have looked at many villages, both on the north and on the south side of the Tramuntana. Peculiarities in the south and noortheast are the weekly market in Inca and the renovated old town of Alcudia.

From Alcudia you drive along the beautiful bay to Porto Pollenca with his family friendly beach. The capital, Palma is worth a visit. We took the bus from Pto. Soller and return by the railway, the red flash. There also remains a lot of days for a future vacation still to see and to hike.
